Description
The rise and fall of the Muslim community in South Asia is a comparatively neglected chapter in the history of Islam, and is yet to gain its proper place in historical literature. Earlier chroniclers have seldom undertaken an indepth analysis of the forces at work in this part of the world, their interest being mainly confined to recording the deeds (and misdeeds) of the rulers, and the wars that kings, princes, rajas, and other worldly leaders were involved in. Modern Orientalists have, for the most part, seen the history of Muslim South Asia through the prism of their preconceived notions. Their westernized disciples have also tended to faithfully repeat the views of western authors, few being able to free themselves from the pattern set by Elliot and Dowson (History of Sindh,1955)
