Education is the cornerstone upon which is based the entire structure action and thought of a nation and country. Religion is the mainstay of the Islamic culture which is mainly based on education. This is the reason that in Islam education has been given a primacy of place. In numerous verse the Holy Quran has attached great importance to the pursuit of knowledge. In the very first revelation of the Holy Book the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was given a command to read and write. In a number of sayings the Prophet has also exhorted the believers to seek knowledge from cradle to grave and regard it as their sacred duty. This acquisition of knowledge would enrich their life and enable them to discharge duties connected with the highly onerous responsibility of Khalifah and Istilah. According to the Prophet the ink of a scholar is holier than the blood of the martyr and the learned people are the heirs of Prophet.
