The present research work “Social, Economic and Cultural History of Bijapur” by the author is yet another exceptional contribution to know ledge. This work completes his detailed study of the history of the Adil Shahi dynasty of Bijapur, 1490 1686 and fills a vacuum in the his tory of the Deccan. Based mainly on the accounts of the travellers, this book gives a detail account of the social cultural and economic life of the rulers as well as the people of the kingdom.
The kingdom played an important part in the social, economic and cul rural advancement of the region. The society that had emerged under it consisted of the followers of Hindu. Muslim, Jew and Christian religions and was based on sound economic foundation where trade and commerce flourished well. The perfect harmony among these com munities not only ensured peace and prosperity of the inhabitants but also produced a composite culture where art, science, literature, architecture painting, calligraphy etc. had flou rushed The city of Bijapur had become an important centre of cul ture of the Deccan under the AdilShahs. An account of these achievements alongwith fourteen illustrations and three Appendices is found in this work.
