Description
This volume was designed to make on objective assessment of the nature and direction of change in the socio-cultural life of India’s largest religious minority, namely the Muslims, during fifty years of the country’s Independence. In its present form it has dealt with only some limited aspects of the life of the community. The study could not be as broad based as originally planned and has attempted to observe certain aspects of demography, the nature of their polity and political empowerment, the state of their education in a limited area and the features of their social structure and organization including the impact of Islam on the aboriginal tribes in the country. This is in no way an exhaustive study but a focus on a few selected aspects provides ample insight into the problems of the Muslims in India particularly since the country has gained Independence.
