Description
The name of the Second Caliph was Umar and title ‘Farooq’. His father’s name was ‘al-Khattab’. Thus the Second Caliph is called as “Umar Farooq Ibn-al-Khattab. He came from Bani Adi, a branch of the Quraysh tribe. His family chain meets that of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) on the eighth generation. During the days of ignorance Banu Adi had the distinctive position in Quraish and was in charge of the diplomatic services and administration of justice. Even before Islam, Hazrat Umar was well-known for his gallantry and boldness. He knew reading and writing and had great interest in oratory.
