The Islamic ideology of life is thorough going. It has evolved a system, which only a full-fledged state can bring into action Such a state, in fact, has brought, once in history, the Kingdom of God into existence. It is an ideal dispensation meant to serve as an all-time model for all human beings to study and adopt. Under this ideal stat a perfect man trained the best men and women, who ever lived on the surface of earth.
It was in the nature of things that such a state should be short lived, just to serve as an example and a centre of reference for everything good and great in human life on earth. That is why the state of Medina has always been the dreamland for all the Muslims, down the ages, throughout the world. There might have naturally been differences of opinion even in this model of human society. Hence the variety of characters among the best leaders of thought and action. The four Caliphs of the Prophet represent four types of personality and styles of work, though all of them are agreed upon the authority of God and His apostle. The prophet himself recommended them as beacons for all the faithfuls.
