Description
Gujarat as a separate state of India dawned on the map on Ist May 1960. Many socio-politico-economic changes have taken place since then The varying general conditions affect the various ethnic religious comedy nities in quite heterogeneous manner This gives rise to community specific Socio-Economic profile of the communities. Muslims in Gujarat have significant say in the aggregate scenario of the state in all walks of life As citizens of India, they should be given equal rights and opportunities to realise their potentials. But their Specific socio-economic profile warrants a distinct policy package in public vis-a-vis intra community policy tenets and programmes For this purpose, hard facts are must. Data is a base for realistic and effective welfare measures of any community. It is very obvious that data on Muslims are quite scarce. Hence on important parameters the data should be generated. With this particular aim in view, this project was sponsored by INSTITUTE OF OBJECTIVE STUDIES – New Delhi.
