The book Psychosocial Profiles of Hindu Muslim Slum Dwellers of Delhi deals with different issues and problems faced by Slum community of Delhi. It discusses social, economic and psychological causes of their plight. As a matter of fact slum dwelling is not confined to Indian cities alone but this menace transcend over nations like Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia etc. and attempts are made by international agencies to deal with the problems arising out of it. Based on empirical study this book highlights different economic, social and psychological problems the slum dwellers face today, especially in Delhi. The facts reveal that the problems of two communities are same and they do not carry any prejudice against one another and show resentment against the policy of the Government concerning development of their areas, educational facilities for their children, health programs, civic amenities and transport facility. Moreover, they showed some differences on psychological variables namely personality and Mental Health. Hindu respondents showed strong personality characteristics and Muslims’ Mental Health was more positive. This trend of results has been attributed to feelings of Hindus being in majority and religiosity among Muslims. Findings quoted in the book are of great significance with regard to national integration, homogeneity in living styles and desires for development, education for children etc.
