This preliminary Survey of some of the main Muslim institutions and associations in Calcutta has been done with the primary objective of filling a gap in our knowledge about their extent and distribution as also about their functioning. The information may perhaps enable those who have a desire to adopt welfare measures to plan their work on the basis of accurate knowledge. The need for prevention of decay, deterioration and degeneration of the institutions is widely shared and a desire for improvement is almost universally felt. The picture that emerges form the survey may facilitate drawing up of action programme on a scientific lines.
