Al-Biruni has been acknowledged by the scholars, is unique in his attempt to make a comparative study of some religions. He stands unique in the history of Islam for his contributions to the study of Comparative Religion. He has assembled the facts about the beliefs and practices of various religious groups, arranged them, classified them, compared them with one another and with the beliefs and practices of his own religion, in order to arrive at a better understanding of the significance of religion. This scientific approach in this field has distinguished his work amazingly important and without parallel upto his time. The fruits of his keen insight and unprejudied approach in making a comparative study of religions and, for this purpose, his attempt to study them in the best sources, can be enjoyed in his Indica and his Chronology. It is because of this fact that his greatest contribution to learning is recognised not in the field of the more exact sciences but in this field of the sciences of the spirit.
