Description
The dialogue between the Christian and Islamic worlds that has taken place during the last thirty years of the Twentieth century represents a turning point in relations between the monotheistic religions. It has taken the form of meetings such as those in Tripoli, Cordoba and elsewhere which have been much talked of. Nor should we forget the reception of the Grand Ulemas of Saudi Arabia by Pope Paul VI at the Vatican in 1974, or the Christian and Muslim groups which have taken steps to get to know and understand each other better. Centuries of ignorance and widely spread but false ideas concerning Islam have indeed prevailed in the West, thus poisoning the atmosphere. The time has come for a change. The newly opened dialogue has made this possible by airing many problems, those raised by the Holy Scriptures figure prominently, for ali the others are directly affected by them. It is therefore of vital importance to know and understand the idea both Christians and Muslims have of the Scriptures, since they are the foundation of their respective beliefs.
