The observer of fast should refrain from excessive eating, unnecessary conversation and volubility which are likely to upset his composure and serenity and make him drift from the straight path. Fasting strengthens man’s morality and self-control and deepens in him the consciousness of the Lord. Unlike other religious fasting in Islam does not aim at inflicting unbearable privations upon its followers. The underlying idea behind is to impart moral training. It does not train a person for complete renunciation but for perfect and cheerful obedience to Allah. Islam has laid down various injunctions for the performance of this obligation.
